The required steps to become a firefighter

There’s not a more honorable and fulfilling job than that of a firefighter, actually saving people’s lives and not bragging about it. These are unknown heroes that expect nothing in return of risking their lives in the battle with fire, granting life to those who are in danger of losing it.

If you are interested to become a firefighter and to save people lives you should know about some conditions that need to be met. Before considering what the technical prerequisites are, one should focus firstly about the ethical and spiritual requirements a firefighter should have, in order to complete this assignment honorably: he would have to be a generous and caring man, one that has no second thoughts about risking his one life to save the one of his fellow man..

If we were to talk about firefighter requirements, they are usually structured the same, irrespectively of the country you live in. The first test that needs to be passed is a physical examination, because a good physical condition is a must have, considering that a firefighter’s daily task is to win the battle with fire. The next examination will be a written one and it is said to be rather tough in most areas. Its main goal is to put to test the intellectual capacities and abilities of the applicant, by presenting him with specific problems.

The agility test is another exam the applicant will have to pass in order to become a firefighter. This is an examination that will test the applicant’s wits and agility, confronting him with possible scenarios. The best thing to do is to use instincts as well as reason, in order to solve the test items.

The concluding part of the testing will most certainly include an oral interview, where the future firefighter will be inquired about his motivation, his ethical principles and drive towards this job. One of the committee members will be holding the interview, therefore it’s a very important part of the whole testing.

Is not exactly easy getting accepted into a firefighting training program, as it includes at least three tests and an interview. However, things like having a college degree or some kind of medical training will surely mark you out of the crowd in a positive way. Therefore, if you feel you have it in you, don’t hesitate and enroll in a firefighting training today, you’ll never regret it!
